A vertical Labret piercing is another of the many options available as an oral piercing. The piercing sits vertically through the center of the bottom lip entering at the top right where the lips meet and exiting at the bottom just under the lip line.
Just like any other oral piercing a vertical labret piercing will swell so downsizing your jewelry is important. The aftercare for this piercing is like any other for an oral piercing, your first concern being to keep your swelling down. For full aftercare instructions please visit our aftercare page.
Clients interested in getting a vertical labret should keep in mind that this piercing is essentially a surface piercing on the lip so migration is common and sometimes we will see this piercing fully reject. Excessive irritation with this piercing can cause migration or rejection to occur more rapidly and multiple downsizes may be required if this occurs.
Staying away from lip chaps or lipsticks while your piercing is healing is important to not gum up the area and keep the jewelry clean.
A vertical labret is performed by either clamping the bottom lip with forceps or bracing the tissue with a receiving tube. Like most oral piercings the procedure is quick, the swelling stages of your healing generally being the worst part of the experience.
This piercing can sometimes be anatomy-based if a client’s bottom lip does not have an adequate amount of tissue to pierce and make it a viable, stable piercing.
This piercing is usually performed with a curved barbell and jewelry options can be endless with our suppliers offering us many different styles and designs in stainless steel Titanium or 14 karat gold.
