At Tribal Expression, we have a highly trained team that has been piercing septums for over 20 years. With our extensive experience, you can trust us to provide a straight and beautifully placed piercing.
Septum piercings have a long history in tribal cultures where anything from spikes and feathers to porcupine quills were used for ornamentation.
The septum piercing is definitely one of the most requested piercings we get at the studio, mostly due to the advancement of the jewelry industry and the wide array we can offer to our clients. By far one of the easiest piercings to get. The septum piercing goes through your “sweet spot”, an incredibly thin piece of tissue at the tip of your nose. The procedure is fairly simple and the piercing is almost painless. After the area is clean, your piercer will locate your personal “sweet spot” and mark it; followed by the placement of the receiving tube (a hollow stainless steel tube that will “catch” the needle and brace the tissue) and the needle. The piercing is performed after a few deep breaths and jewelry quickly inserted.
It is crucial to visit a reputable piercer to ensure that the piercing is correctly placed, as incorrect placement can cause pain during healing and make it difficult to find jewelry that fits well. At Tribal Expression, we have a team of experts who will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and address any concerns you may have.
For those of you that would like a facial piercing but are unable to have wear visible jewelry because of a job situation or another circumstance, this is a perfect piercing for you. A circular barbell or “horseshoe” style of jewelry can easily be flipped up inside the nasal cavity making the piercing essentially invisible. Or, for those “go big or go home” kind of people, stretching your septum to a thicker gauge and wearing one large piece or “stacking” multiple pieces in the stretched piercing is an option for you.
In the first two months, it is important that you are making sure the jewelry is completely clean and free of any “crusties” before flipping it. This is important to avoid irritation or the introduction of bacteria into your healing piercing. Questions or concerns regarding this can be discussed with your piercer at your appointment and full aftercare instructions can be found on our Aftercare Page.
Because this piercing heals very quickly, usually within 2 months, jewelry can be changed quite easily and sooner than most piercings. Whether you’re going for a subtle and dainty look or want a show-stopping piece, with the endless jewelry options available, the septum piercing is a piercing that can really make a statement.
