Many people come into the studio wanting multiple ear piercings done or have an idea for a curated ear project, to allow your body the time to heal we do advise only doing 3 piercings in one sitting. Your individual lifestyle should also be taken into consideration as to which side you sleep on, if you wear glasses, use a headset, regularly wear earbuds or are frequently wearing a mask for long periods at work or at school. All of these factors can cause complications, delaying healing and in the worst-case scenario, having to retire or abandon the piercing.
Discuss with your piercer your specific concerns so measures can be taken to avoid problems and give you the best piercing with the best healing experience.
Piercing options and placement for ear piercings is sometimes strictly determined by a client’s individual anatomy. Even though you may have your heart set on a triple forward helix or an industrial, your ear anatomy might not allow our piercers to do these for you properly and have them heal correctly. As we never like to have a client leave disappointed if you are coming in for a piercing that is anatomy-based having a second option isn’t a bad idea.
Choosing the jewelry for your new ear piercing is definitely the best part of the experience as your options are endless! We will always recommend a piece of jewelry that is most ideal to heal, especially when working with cartilage.
Please keep in mind that certain pieces will only work with certain anatomy and sometimes the piece you’ve fallen in love with isn’t viable for your anatomy. But, with all that being said, our piercers will absolutely work with you in any way to find jewelry and a piercing that you will leave the shop happy with and excited to show off.
We like to always be honest with our clientele so we will admit, cartilage piercings although not excruciating, can be painful. Though with our piercer’s experience and knowledge the procedure is very fast, usually nothing more than a quick pinch. We do ask that you get a good nights sleep, make sure you have eaten before your appointment and try not to stress about it too much as the anticipation is generally the worst part?
Just having the piercing done isn’t the end of the story though, now you must take care of it. (For full aftercare instructions please visit the Aftercare page). One of the biggest misconceptions about healing a piercing is that the jewelry must be twisted or turned throughout the day and while cleaning it. This is a huge no-no and absolutely not necessary when getting pierced with the proper implant grade jewelry; commonly all this does is introduce bacteria into the area and disrupt your healing cycle.
So, hands-off is first and foremost the most important rule. Keeping your hair clean and off the area, pillowcases clean, cell phone or anything that will come into contact with the piercings is important. Using a travel pillow can sometimes help, allowing you to sleep more comfortably and cause less irritation to healing piercings.
You must also consider wearing masks through the healing process as the elastics bands will typically lay directly on top of the piercings/jewelry on the back of the earlobe. This will cause excessive irritation and can lead to infection.
We do recommend using disposable masks rather than fabric as the elastics are much thinner and easier to keep clean; make sure that you are sanitizing your hands before and after taking your mask on and off to keep the elastics as clean as possible. An even better option is wearing a mask that will tie above your head or using an ear saver to get the elastics off of the area altogether.
