Besides the Prince Albert, the frenum is the most requested, and arguably most well-known, of the genital piercings. Traditionally, the frenum is pierced with a barbell horizontally on the underside of the shaft of the penis. Although, for piercers with enough experience performing genital work, and piercees with ample experience healing genital work, other placements (i.e. piercing horizontally along the top) are an option.

This service can be a single piercing or done in multiples all the way along the shaft, this is referred to as a “Jacob’s Ladder”. This piercing can be a wonderful addition to a person’s aesthetic and can be quite pleasing for their partner as well.

Healing time for a frenum is generally a quick process as the tissue is very thin and vascular, typically around 3 months. The thinness of the tissue also makes this piercing one of the easier male genital piercings to have done. Due to it being a highly vascular area, some bleeding can be expected.

Due to the combination of thin tissue and the excessive movement of the location, frenum piercings should never be performed in anything under a 10-gauge. Many clients opt to start at a larger gauge or stretch the piercing once healed.

Migration and/or rejection of frenum piercings can occur; listen to the advice of your piercer to best prevent this from happening.
