This piercing pays homage to the iconic Marilyn Monroe whose famed beauty mark sat just above her upper lip. This was one of the first lip piercing variations, continuing today to be one of our most requested in the studio.

Piercing is always performed with a long flat back labret stud that will be downsized once the initial swelling has subsided.  Swelling can be minimized by keeping the area iced and free from excessive irritation. For complete aftercare instructions, please visit our Aftercare page

Downsizing a Monroe piercing is very important to avoid causing damage to the teeth and gums. This is generally recommended at the 2-3 week mark, but can vary, so please follow the advice of your piercer.   Making sure you eat before any piercing is important, even more so with oral piercings, as it will be difficult for you to eat afterward. Also being prepared by buying a non-alcoholic mouthwash prior to your trip to the studio will save you a stop afterward.

Monroe piercing is performed similarly to all oral piercings. Once cleaned and marked, the area is clamped, pierced and the jewelry inserted. They can be done in multiples, on one side of the lip, or on both sides (referred to as “Angel Bites”).

A Monroe can add just a little shine or can be big and bold and beautiful depending on the jewelry one chooses, bead options will come in a wide array of sizes, designs and materials.
