Ampallang Piercing

The ampallang is a straight barbell that runs horizontally through the head of a penis. This is one of the most advanced piercings to perform and is usually requested by clientele who have received and healed previous genital piercings.

Clients who decide to have this piercing should be prepared for a potentially long and intense healing period as this piercing usually passes through at least an inch of tissue. Depending on how well a client takes care of the piercing and their personal health, the healing process could take anywhere from 4 months to 1 year.

This area has a lot of blood flow which results in bleeding during the procedure and afterward. Bleeding can occur for up to a week post-procedure but will gradually slow down over time. Utilizing warm water in your shower is a quick and easy way to soak off and remove any dried blood.

Custom jewelry will need to be ordered for this piercing to accommodate your specific anatomy, so a consultation is required. It is not uncommon for us to measure, then order a few different sizes of barbells as this piercing does swell, sometimes on and off for a couple of months, and will need to be downsized a few times before the final fit is determined.

An ampallang should not be performed in anything smaller than a 10-gauge, although most men will find an 8g or 6g more comfortable.

During your consultation the piercer will discuss with you the placement and whether or not you would like the piercing to pass through the urethra. Often this is determined by anatomy alone, but some clients have the option. Both placements can be performed and healed safely. Although, some piercers believe that if the piercing passes through the urethra, the piercing will heal faster as the urine stream will essentially “flush” the piercing channel out.

For the most part, this piercing is performed like many others: the area is cleaned, marked and the procedure is either performed using clamps or done freehand with a receiving tube. Complete aftercare instructions can be found on our Aftercare Page.
