Eyebrow Piercing in Calgary

Safe, precise, and beautifully styled eyebrow piercing at Tribal Expression.

What is an eyebrow piercing?

An eyebrow piercing is a surface piercing that passes through the skin along the brow line – usually at the outer third of the eyebrow, either at a slight diagonal or more vertical angle depending on your anatomy and the look you’re going for.

Because the tissue here is fairly shallow and moves a lot when you talk, laugh, and sleep, eyebrow piercings demand careful placement, correct jewelry choice, and thoughtful aftercare if you want them to last.

At Tribal Expression in Calgary, our team has been performing facial piercings for over two decades. We also design and manufacture our own implant-grade titanium and gold body jewelry in-house, so the person placing your piercing and the people making your jewelry are working to the same standards of precision and long-term safety.

Am I a good candidate for an eyebrow piercing?

During your consultation, your piercer will look at:

  • Brow shape and thickness – We need enough tissue for the bar to sit comfortably without too much pressure at either end.
  • Existing scars or previous piercings – Old scars can affect how well the area holds jewelry and how the piercing sits visually.
  • Lifestyle factors – Contact sports, heavy helmets, tight hats, roughhousing with pets or kids, and certain jobs all increase the risk of irritation or rejection.
  • Skin and healing history – If you tend to scar heavily or form keloids, we’ll talk honestly about pros, cons, and alternatives.

If we don’t think the piercing will heal or last well for you, we’ll tell you that upfront and suggest other placements that better suit your anatomy and lifestyle.

How much does an eyebrow piercing hurt?

Most people are surprised by how quick and manageable this piercing feels. You can expect:

  • A sharp pinch that lasts a second or two
  • A brief warm or “stingy” sensation afterward
  • Mild throbbing for a short time, similar to a firm pinch

On most people’s personal pain scale, eyebrow tends to sit on the lower end of facial piercings. Good breathing, a relaxed forehead, and a calm environment all make a big difference, which is why we walk you through every step before we begin.

How long does an eyebrow piercing take to heal?

Eyebrow piercings generally take 3–6 months to settle, sometimes a bit longer depending on:

  • How much the area is bumped, moved, or slept on
  • Jewelry style and fit
  • Your general health and immune system
  • How closely aftercare is followed

You’ll likely notice these stages:

  • Weeks 1–4: Initial swelling, tenderness, some redness. The jewelry may look a bit “long” to give the tissue room to swell.
  • Weeks 4–12: Swelling slowly reduces, the piercing feels less tender, and the skin around each end starts to tighten and look smoother.
  • After 3–6 months: The piercing feels stable and less reactive to light bumps, and you may be ready to downsize to a shorter bar for better comfort and aesthetics.

Even if it looks good on the outside, the inside is slower to heal. We’ll give you a personalized downsize timeline at your appointment and can check progress in-studio or via photos if you’re unsure.

Eyebrow piercing aftercare: what should I avoid?

Most “piercing bumps” on eyebrow piercings are your body reacting to friction, pressure, or bacteria – an irritation response, not permanent damage. The goal of aftercare is to keep the area clean and calm.

Clean, don’t over-clean

  • Use the hypochlorous acid spray we recommend (or sterile saline if instructed) 1–2 times daily.
  • Gently saturate the area, let it sit for 30–60 seconds, then pat dry with a clean disposable paper towel.
  • Avoid twisting, spinning, or “working” the jewelry – that creates micro-tears and slows healing.

Protect it from irritation

  • Avoid hats, helmets, and beanies that press or rub on the piercing during early healing.
  • Be cautious pulling shirts or hoodies over your head.
  • Keep hair products, makeup, and self-tanner away from the piercing until it’s more settled.
  • Try not to sleep directly on that side; a travel pillow can help keep pressure off the area.

Watch for common irritants

  • Constant touching or “checking” the piercing in the mirror
  • Playing with the jewelry absent-mindedly
  • Letting soap, shampoo, or skincare build up in the area without rinsing well

If you notice a bump forming, more redness, or the piercing becoming suddenly cranky, send us clear photos or book a check-up. Catching irritation early makes it much easier to calm down.

What jewelry is best for an eyebrow piercing?

We strongly recommend starting with:

  • A curved barbell
Typically 16g (occasionally 14g depending on anatomy), designed to follow the natural contour of the brow and less prone to snagging or pressure than a ring during healing.
  • Implant-grade materials only
ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium (our in-house Tribal jewelry) or 14k/18k solid gold tops and ends; niobium or platinum can be considered in special cases.
  • Internally threaded or threadless
Smoother through the tissue, more secure, and easier to change once healed.

Once your piercing is settled and downsized, you’ll have a huge range of styling options: minimalist beads, geometric ends, chains, marquise and pear-cut gemstones, and matching pairs to mirror other facial or ear work.

Because we manufacture our own jewelry in Calgary, we can often custom-build eyebrow pieces to match existing projects or create something one-of-a-kind just for you.

Do eyebrow piercings reject or leave scars?

Eyebrow piercings are technically surface piercings, so they have a higher chance of migration or rejection compared to deeper piercings like nostrils or lobes. That doesn’t mean yours will reject – it just means we need to respect the limits of the tissue.

We’ll talk to you about early signs of migration, such as:

  • The bar starting to feel shallower
  • The ends slowly getting closer together
  • The skin between the entry and exit points thinning or looking shiny

Most people are left with two small marks where the jewelry sat, similar in size to a healed blemish. Larger scars are usually associated with heavy trauma, repeated catching, or removing the jewelry during an active flare-up instead of calming it first.

Our goal is always long-term success, not just getting jewelry in today. If your body starts to push an eyebrow piercing out, we’ll talk honestly about whether to remove it before it scars more, and we’ll guide you on how to minimize the mark that remains.

How is an eyebrow piercing done at Tribal Expression?

Your appointment will typically include:

  1. Consultation & design
We discuss placement, jewelry style, your anatomy, and your lifestyle (jobs, hobbies, sports), then mark the area with you sitting or standing naturally. You can check the placement from multiple angles before we begin.
  2. Visible sterilization & setup
Your jewelry, needle, and tools are individually sterilized for your appointment in a Statim 5000 cassette sterilizer. At our Calgary studio, you can watch your instruments being sterilized in real time before we use them.
  3. Piercing
The area is cleansed and prepped, the skin is gently secured, and on a calm exhale the needle passes through and the jewelry follows in one smooth motion. We then check alignment with your natural brow movement and facial expression.
  4. Aftercare & follow-up
You’ll leave with written aftercare and our recommendations for downsizing. You’re always welcome to email photos or book a check-up if you’re unsure about anything.

We never use piercing guns – only sterile, single-use needles and individually sterilized jewelry.

Eyebrow Piercing FAQ

How long does an eyebrow piercing take to heal?

Most eyebrow piercings take around 3–6 months to fully settle. Some people feel “normal” earlier, but the tissue under the skin continues to organize for several months, which is why a piercer will guide you on the best time to downsize and change jewelry.

Does an eyebrow piercing hurt a lot?

The piercing itself is very quick and usually feels like a brief, sharp pinch followed by a warm or stingy sensation that fades quickly. Most people find it easier than they expected once it’s over.

Can eyebrow piercings reject or grow out?

Eyebrow piercings are surface piercings, so they do have a higher risk of migration or rejection if they see a lot of irritation, pressure, or poor jewelry. Careful placement, correct jewelry, and good aftercare significantly reduce this risk.

What jewelry should I start with for my eyebrow piercing?

Most professional piercers recommend starting with a curved barbell made from implant-grade titanium or solid gold. This style reduces pressure and catching during healing and gives the tissue room to swell before downsizing.

Can I wear makeup or hats with a fresh eyebrow piercing?

Makeup and heavy skincare should be kept away from the fresh piercing until it has settled. Hats and helmets that press directly on the area should be avoided at first or used very carefully to prevent irritation and pressure on the piercing.
