Smile Gems

This is a service we have offered at Tribal Expression for many years and has continually gained popularity. Given the option of adorning your smile with a simple cubic gem or a 14k gold star allows our clients to really individualize and brighten their smile.

The procedure is quick and pain-free and essentially entails using a dental adhesive to glue the gem/design onto the tooth. Please be aware that this is not a permanent fixture, the longevity of your Smile Gem will depend on your individual lifestyle, the PH balance of your mouth, and how well you take care of it. The “aftercare” for a Smile Gem is not complicated but can make the difference in your Smile Gems lasting 1 month or 2 years. Unfortunately, Smile Gems, like everything, will not last forever. That said, we do understand that having your new bling fall off sooner than expected can be very disappointing. We will replace any Smile Gems at no charge that fall off within the first 2 weeks (this does not include 14k gold designs).

The Rules

Do not eat or drink anything for a minimum of 2 hours after the application.
Stick to soft foods for 24hrs after the procedure, eating only soft foods will ensure that the bond between the gem and your tooth is secure.
Do not brush your teeth for 12 hours after the service and do not use an electric toothbrush for 48 hours afterward.

FAQ’s

How long will the gem stay on for?

The lifespan of your gem is never guaranteed and there are many things that affect this, particularly your dental hygiene habits. The gem can last anywhere from 2 months to 2 years.

Will the gem harm my tooth?

When properly placed on a natural tooth, it will not damage or harm your tooth in any way.

Can I still have my teeth cleaned by my dentist?

Yes, you can and should have your teeth cleaned as regularly as your dentist recommends. The tooth gem will not be a problem for the hygenist cleaning your teeth, the area underneath the gem is sealed and will not allow any bacteria in.

Will regular brushing affect my gem?

The presence of the gem will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene but, we do recommend not using an electric toothbrush for the first 48 hours after the gem has been applied.

How do I remove the gem when I no longer want it?

The gem can easily be removed by your dental professional or by our studio, an appointment for this will be necessary so please book ahead.

Does the application process hurt?

Not at all! The procedure is similar to placing braces on a tooth; it is applied to the tooth with adhesive, there is no drilling involved and the whole procedure only takes about 5 minutes.

Here at Tribal Expression, we implement the highest possible sterilization standards in Canada, the same standards you would see at a plastic surgeon’s office. We feel this is only right as any invasive procedure can be life-threatening if proper sterilization protocols are not met.

We ask that friends and family wait at a nearby coffee shop or in their car during the procedure. Please eat a light snack 30 minutes before your appointment.
